Structure Should Support Our Freedom

What is your relationship like with structure and scheduling?

Does it feel too restricting or limiting? Too rigid of a structure can lead to rebellion or acting out. Doomscrolling , procrastination anyone? Too loose of a structure and we get frustrated with a lack of progress and results.

For so much of our lives structure and scheduling can feel forced on us. It can feel like something we HAVE TO deal with rather than something we WANT for ourselves! Finding our own balance of structure and freedom helps us to enjoy life in the moment. While still maintaining momentum to the goals that are important to us.

It is easy to fall into an expectation that we 'should' be able to maintain motivation and process all on our own. From our determination, motivation and will alone. But this is not the full picture for success.

Putting our goals into the structure of a schedule helps our mindset and healing work get off the ground. It is where the rubber hits the road in our personal growth work.  Having time for our 'to-do' list and time to 'relax/rest/ enjoy' helps us to be more productive in the moment. And to maximize the benefits of our rest time.

Your challenge (should you choose to accept it), is to reflect on your own relationship with structure and freedom.

  • What are your beliefs about structure and goal setting?

  • What balance of structure and freedom feel best at this stage of your life?

  • What does your future self feel is most important to focus on.will be the most proud of yourself for starting now? In 3 months? 6 months? One year?

  • How do you protect your time and energy for your core values? Most meaningful relationships?

  • If you are treating time like your most precious resource would this change how you are spending it now?

  • What is your relationship with rest, creativity and joy?

I hope you can take time to celebrate what is working well and make one small tweak to anything that could use it. The smallest steps can make some of the biggest differences over time.
