Reflections on Discovering your Deeper Sense of Purpose

Have you ever wondered,  "Is this all there is? There must be more to life than this?"

You may have even found yourself chasing different targets and goals, with the hope that when you reach  them you will finally feel how you hope to feel. (Happy, a sense of purpose, content, etc).  From early on most of us are taught to approach life from a logic based perceptive alone. To figure out "what I want to be when I grow up". To work for the next thing. The graduation. The promotion. The titles. Owning the nice things.

There is a level of importance in the material world for sure. Having enough to cover your basic needs makes a huge difference when it comes to overall happiness and stress levels. Yet the link between material success and personal well-being is far more complex than more is always better.

Finding a connection with a deeper sense of meaning and purpose in life requires an active engagement and process on our part. It requires getting clear on our core beliefs and values. To know the difference between what money and success can help with and what it cannot help with.

To cultivate internal resources such as being able to be at peace in the present moment. A deeper sense of meaning and purpose in life overall. Authentic real relationships and love. Leaving a legacy beyond your 9 to 5 or bank balance.

That whisper of "Is this all there is?",  may just be the call of your soul. Calling you to embark on a journey of self-discovery, a yearning to (re)connect with something larger than yourself.

To support you on your journey, here are some practices to deepen your connection to meaning and purpose:

  1. Journaling: Set aside time each day to reflect on your thoughts, feelings, and dreams. Allow your innermost thoughts to flow onto the page, revealing insights that may have been hidden from view.

  2. Meditation: Quieting the mind can help us attune to the wisdom of the soul. Allow yourself to take space away from the businesses of the rational mind chatter and to drop in to deeper levels of your being.

  3. Creative Expression: Engage in activities that allow you to express your innermost self creatively. Whether it be through art, music, or writing, find ways to express your deeper desires.

  4. Seeking Guidance: Consider working with a depth psychologist or therapist who can support you on your journey of self-discovery. Through compassionate inquiry and reflection, you can gain deeper insight and to create blue-print for a successful life that is personally meaningful for you.

I invite you to pay attention to this quiet calling. It can lead you a more whole-hearted, joyful life. Cultivating a deeper sense of meaning and purpose requires courage and commitment. A reminder that meaning and purpose are not a destination to arrive at, but rather, a continual unfolding of the soul's journey.  There are others who have taken this path,  you do not have to travel alone.
